Fighting for Healthy and Strong Communities

As a home health nurse, Melissa knows that creating healthy communities is about so much more than just treating people when they’re sick. It takes good jobs, strong schools, safe neighborhoods, affordable childcare, stable housing, and access to real opportunities. We can count on Melissa to fight for the needs of our rural and coastal communities, just like she fights for her patients every day.

Housing

Rising rents and home prices have taken a toll on our community. Melissa has seen this first hand when she treats patients in their homes. We need to take action to find affordable housing solutions for seniors and hard working Oregonians.

In a state as great as Oregon, no one should have to sleep on the street. It’s time to take immediate steps to provide safe shelter, while also investing in mental health and wraparound services, and supporting coordinated local responses.

Stronger Schools

Every child deserves access to a quality education, no matter your zip code. As a working mother, Melissa will stand up for students, teachers and parents, invest in local schools, and support high-quality education in a safe and welcoming environment.

Supporting Small Businesses

Small businesses and working families are the backbone of our community, from Tillamook to Astoria to Scappoose. Melissa will fight to bring good-paying jobs to our community, invest in workforce development so businesses can find and house qualified workers, and support entrepreneurs who are investing in the local economy.

Bringing Down the Cost of Living

Melissa knows that the cost of everyday necessities are skyrocketing. That’s why she’ll fight to bring down the cost of prescription drugs, invest in affordable childcare and eldercare, and make investments in food security, so that families throughout Oregon can get ahead and stay ahead.

Safer, Stronger Neighborhoods

Everyone deserves to feel safe in their communities. We need major investments in our our crumbling infrastructure. We must build resilient communities that are ready for the challenges we face. This includes safe roadways and transportation systems throughout the district, updated water systems, communications and broadband infrastructure, and comprehensive emergency preparedness planning.

Healthcare

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of quality comprehensive healthcare. Lack of access to sufficient healthcare services has resulted in preventable human suffering and economic loss, particularly amongst our most vulnerable communities. Melissa will focus on a broader understanding of healthcare and work on securing access to these fundamental needs for everyone, to assure that our communities can thrive.
